DG Michael’s November report

Dear Fellow Lions, Lionesses, Leo’s and Partners,

I cannot believe that already Clubs are making preparations and finalising rotas for Christmas Sleighs and Grottos, which of course are a major part of the Lions year. It just shows how quickly time is passing by. This is brought home to me by undertaking a typical day starting at 5.30am and finishing around 11.30pm, but it keeps me out of mischief.

Last month was as busy as usual with visits to Todmorden, Denby Dale, Boroughbridge 98, York, Otley and Derwent Lions Club. Charter season also got in to full force with Carole and I attending Pocklington District, Rotherham, Goole District, Hull Kingston, Maltby Rother Valley and Withernsea Lions Club’s Charter Anniversaries. With all Clubs visits and Charters we received the warmest of welcomes and we thank you so much for your hospitality. I also had the sad duty of attending the funerals of Lion Bill Maddison, Lion Tony Wright and Lion Harry Stansill all outstanding Lions who will be missed.

One highlight of last month was the Pontefract Lioness Club Lantern Festival, where I was chuffed to bits with the “School Yellow Bus” lantern that was specially made for me, so I am keeping it as a souvenir and it may get another outing at District Convention in February.

Talking about Convention, booking forms have been sent to all Clubs and can also be downloaded from the District Website, Lion Carole is processing all the bookings and early indications is that Convention will be well supported. The bookings for rooms are to be made directly with the hotel and are been snapped up fast. So the earlier you book the better.

Finally, I am delighted that a number of you have embraced my theme “Have the Courage to Encourage” especially with our newer members. By involving them and encouraging them to take part or lead projects is brilliant. Also look to develop them into to future Club Presidents and Officers. Have a great month and we look forward to seeing you on our travels.
