I am always throughout my travels, impressed with the various activities individual Clubs undertake in the Lions year. However there are two District 105c activities that really need the support of all Members and Clubs. The first one is the Disabled Fun and Sports Day to be held on the 19th of August at Sandall Park in Doncaster. This event for me is one of the highlights of the year bringing Lions and Lionesses together to do what we do best “We Serve”.
The problem we have though is the steady decline in numbers of guests attending this event, and this of course puts the whole event at risk. So can I please ask you all too really get behind this event by contacting your local Disabled Groups to send guests along and also if you do not already do so, please consider your Club becoming involved by bringing along a game etc. And the added bonus is you can throw wet sponges at the District Governor in the stocks and enjoy the com-radeship and satisfaction of doing what we do best “service”.
The second District project I would like to mention is the Gambia Project. Despite political problems in Gambia, the team are still keen on filling the container with useful items and aid ready to ship out. So please support this international project.
Last month has been very busy again, I have visited Barnsley District Lions, where I had the honour to induct two new members Lions Carol and Rebecca. Well done to Lion President John Bannister and his team for continuing to drive the Club forward. I also visited Tickhill and District Lions Club, who are doing amazing things in their area, then finally to Thorne Rural Lions to retrieve a District Banner which somehow ended up in their mini bus. Finally Carole and I attended Rothwell District Lions Club Charter.
This month will see the MD Convention in Blackpool and hopefully it will be decided what will happen with the redistricting, I hope that the arguments are put forward in the spirit of Lionism and that we have a sensible workable outcome.
