Hospital Packs
As part of the “Lions in The Community Project”, the Lions in the Kirklees and Calderdale Zone, including Holmfirth and Meltham Lions, Colne Valley Lions and Huddersfield Lions, recently donated funding to pay for a quantity of hospital packs for both Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Calderdale Hospital. The hospital packs are held in each hospital and issued to emergency patients and admissions who need to unexpectedly stay in hospital, and include face washing materials, tooth cleaning and shaving equipment. All designed to hopefully make the patient as comfortable as possible in what are often difficult circumstances.
Zone Chairman, Malcolm Howlett (secretary of Holmfirth and Meltahm Lions), together with Lions from Holmfirth and Meltham, Colne Valley and Huddersfield, was invited by Carol Cooke from the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust to a presentation to mark the thanks from the Trust
The picture shows Malcolm, Carol with one of her colleagues together with the assembled Lions with the packs.
This is another demonstration of combined Lions clubs making a difference in the local community.
Lions Easter Egg Raffle – 2012
The Lions ran the successful Easter Egg Raffle again this year in aid of Kirkwood Hospice.
We distributed 30 high quality chocolate Easter eggs in pubs and clubs along the Holme Valley and in Meltham. Each egg was decorated with the name of the pub where they are being sold and they came complete with a delightful selection of chocolates
The raffle is based on the National Lottery where customers buy one of the numbers between 1 and 49 for £1, the eventual winner being the customer who has purchased the number which coincides with the Lottery Bonus Ball on Easter Saturday. The landlords of each pub kindly agreed to assist in the selling of the tickets in their establishments and our hopes that all of the numbers get sold for each egg were pretty much met.
We were hoping that if we were successful then we could raise in the region of £900, all of which would be donated to Kirkwood Hospice.
Click here to see the full list of the pubs and clubs which supported us and the final total which we will be donating to the Hospice.
